Neurobeat 5: Kittenz and Thee Glitz presents Felix Da Housecat

Neurobeat is a music series on Nothing’s Shocking that comes out late on Tuesday nights. Every other week a new song/artist is featured to complement my mood or experiences of the previous week. If you’re wondering why in the hell I’m doing this, please read the original Neurobeat for my reasons.

The last Neurobeat edition began to betray my lust for the beat. I’ve always managed to find a place where the DJ spinz to feed the beast; whether in London, Hong Kong or New York. I’ve been in this dance mood/mode ever since coming back from Ireland/London just last week. Perhaps this is because I went to Europe and spent all of my evening hours exclusively in pubs, neglecting to seek out the clubs. My own fault. Now on to the main subject…(cont.)

Felix Da Housecat is one of those artists that struck me upon my first listen and thump on the dance floor. He is quite prolific, having worked with scores of other artists to remix beats on top of everything from Madonna and the Chemical Brothers to New Order and the Pet Shop Boys. However, I tend to stay closer to his own mixes.
Felix was not born with a surname like “Da Housecat”, but was rather a Stallings, growing up in Chicago, IL. Felix rapidly became immersed in the emerging House music scene in Chicago before moving to Alabama for college to study media and communication. It was there where he was influenced by a range of sounds including Prince and A Tribe Called Quest (Ahhh, Q-Tip…another one of my favorites). After winning field-appropriate accolades, Felix continued to garner fame and still spinz at many events throughout the US and Europe. He seems to be currently based in Atlanta, but I’m not sure what that means for someone who is constantly traveling.
Felix is an avid user of social media. Besides his MySpace page (linked above), he has taken a liking to Twitter. I followed him for a while to see what the heck international DJs talk about, but his prolific output drove me nuts and I had to drop him. Regarding science, I think he is more a particle physics kind of guy, so in turn, he also stopped following me.
On my last night in Ireland, I had a long conversation and a few Irish whiskeys with 2 Dutch entrepreneurs who produced and created this show [careful, some parts may be NSFW]. Apparently Felix spun at their wedding and they had plenty of stories to tell, including all about the Cat’s fabled sex addiction. But I digress…
Here are links for 2 of my favorites:

But it is always nice to have a video, so here is “Silver Screen Shower Scene”. Not my absolute favorite, but anything involving Miss Kittin is usually fine with me so I’ll condone this:

Tight beats. Haven’t been around techno much since I was last in London. I should visit some of these YouTube channels more regularly.

I love this image from Silver Screen Shower Scene, the blokes on the ends remind me of Tom Waits with a mild case of plagiocephaly.
